Crime Awareness: Blue Light Bandit Robberies

A Crime Alert is being issued in Cumberland County following the recent “Blue Light Bandit” robberies that have recently occurred in surrounding areas.

To date, there have been no reports of this type crime in Cumberland County.  However, we want our residents to be aware of safety precautions to help reduce their chances of becoming a victim.

If you are “blue-lighted” by someone in an unmarked vehicle and you feel threatened, follow these suggestions:

1. Reduce your speed.
2. Turn your hazard lights on.
3. Turn your vehicle interior lights on.
4. Call 911 and report that you are being stopped.
5. Continue to drive until you reach a well lit area, preferably where other people are present.

The 911 dispatcher at that time can alert the officer and make him aware that you are looking for a safe area to pull over.

Meanwhile, be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity on the roadways.
