Cumberland County Pays Tribute Memorial Day Weekend

Fayetteville and Cumberland County hold ceremonies and special events to honor those that died in service to our country.

Throughout the year, Fayetteville and Cumberland County honors the contributions and sacrifices of the military and their families.

Memorial Day, the national holiday set aside to honor those that have died in service to our country, holds special meaning for the community. This Memorial Day weekend, join us in honoring the military. Attend one or more of these events and pay tribute to those that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Through June 27/ NC Field of Honor / Airborne & Special Operations Museum
The NC Field of Honor is a living display of heroism. Each of the 1000+ flags stands in tribute to someone currently serving, those who have served and the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation’s security and freedom. Fri, May 22 / Spring Lake Memorial Day Ceremony / Spring Lake Veterans Park
Spring Lake as they pays tribute tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The ceremony, which starts at 10 a.m. , Includes a performance by the 82nd Airborne Chorus and a keynote speech by Keynote Speech by Incoming 82nd Airborne Division Artillery Commander, Colonel Christopher S.Moretti. www.spring-lake.org

Fri May 22/ Memorial Day Senior Veterans Breakfast / Hope Mills Recreation Center
The Hope Mills Memorial Day breakfast breakfast is open to any Veteran or the spouse of a deceased Veteran ages 55 and up. Includes a full breakfast, area vendors, guest speakers and complimentary door prizes. Attendees are required to RSVP either by calling the senior center, 425-6707 or stopping by to sign up. Sun May 24/ A Symphonic Salute to the U.S. Armed Forces / Festival Park
The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and the Army Ground Forces Band are pleased to present their third annual free concert, a Symphonic Salute to the U.S. Armed Forces. The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra will present the North Carolina premiere of
Brothers in Arts, a new symphonic work to celebrate 70 years of liberty from WWII composed by Chris Brubeck. Chris Brubeck, Guillaume Saint-James, and a group of musicians from France will perform with the symphony for this premiere. Mon May 25 / Memorial Day Ceremony / Freedom Memorial
Join with the greater Fayetteville community for a tribute to Cumberland County’s veterans who died in wartime. Limited bleacher eating is available. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. Freedom Memorial Park

Mon May 25 / K9 Memorial Ceremony/ Airborne and Special Operations Museum
The Airborne & Special Operations Museum Foundation in partnership with the Special Operations Force K9 Memorial Foundation host a Memorial Day Service ceremony to honor the bravery and dedication of the special operations K-9 Soldier. These dogs often lead their Soldier team-members in the most dire conditions to save lives and complete the mission. They’ve given their lives for their country.
