Cumberland Trending Positive; Case Numbers Down

The Cumberland County Department of Public Health reports eight Cumberland County residents died from the coronavirus since the beginning of March, bringing the total to 284 deaths. There have been 24,791 cases reported since the onset of the pandemic.

Cumberland County was in the Orange Tier of the NC County Alert System with substantial community spread, according to the most recent available data taken from Feb. 14 – 27. The county’s case positivity rate is at 6.5%, a decrease since February. The target rate recommended by the World Health Organization is 5%.

Effective March 17, the Health Department will begin vaccinating individuals eligible in Group 4 (Individuals with higher risk medical conditions and additional congregate settings). Cumberland County continues to offer free drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination clinics. An online application form now allows individuals to choose their own appointment date and time for the first dose of the vaccine. A Saturday clinic has been added to next week’s vaccination schedule.

  • Tuesday, March 16: 2nd dose appointment only. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Groups 1, 2 and 3. No standby lane.
  • Wednesday, March 17: 1st and 2nd doses appointment only. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4. No standby lane.
  • Friday, March 19: 1st dose appointment only. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4. Standby lane from 3 to 5 p.m. for eligible individuals.
  • Saturday, March 20: 1st dose appointment only. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4. The Health Department will open appointment slots beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 12.
