Dedication of Maholic Child Development Center on Tuesday

Master Sgt. Thomas Maholic's name will grace the newest child development center, forever honoring his sacrifice.

Col. Stephen Sicinski, Fort Bragg Garrison Commander, will host the dedication of the Maholic Child Development Center, 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5 at building B-7125 Sicily Drive, on Fort Bragg.

The child development center is being dedicated in honor of Master Sgt. Thomas D. Maholic. Maholic, who was 38-years-old-at the time of his death, was awarded the Silver Star posthumously for actions during the Global War on Terror.

Maholic, who served as the Detachment Operations Sergeant for Operational Detachment Alpha 765 (ODA-765), Company A, 2d Battalion, 7th
Special Forces Group (Airborne), displayed conspicuous gallantry and
intrepidity in action during combat operations in support of Operation
Enduring Freedom on June 24, 2006 at Pashmul, Kandahar, Afghanistan.  The
Bradford, Penn. native's heroic actions defeated a Taliban attack, saved the
lives of his comrades, and prevented the destruction of his team.

The Silver Star Medal is the third highest military decoration that can be awarded to a member of the United States Armed Forces. The Silver Star is the successor decoration to the Citation Star which was established by an Act of Congress on July 9, 1918. On July 19, 1932, the Secretary of War approved the Silver Star to replace the Citation Star. The original Citation Star is incorporated into the center of the Silver Star, and the ribbon for the Silver Star is based closely on the Certificate of Merit Medal.

Registration for the child development centers on post are handled through They serve military personnel, their families and legal guardians of a deployed soldier’s children with services such as daycare, childcare, before and after school programs, summer camps, youth sports, teen programs, apprenticeships and other events.
