Hundreds of children and adults visited the 88h Annual Fall Safety Day held in Marketfair Mall Parking lot on Saturday. Cumberland County and Fort Bragg Fire and Police Departments hosted the Fall Safety Day to celebrate Sparky the Fire Dog’s birthday and to kick-off Fire Prevention Month that runs through October.
North Carolina reports approximately 6,000 home fires every year.
Fall Safety Day was an effort to help reduce those numbers by equipping families with the knowledge and training needed to prevent home fires and other accidents.
“I am very impressed” said Wayne Goodman, Commissioner of Insurance and North Carolina State Fire Marshal regarding the attendance level.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and admission was free. Although the highlight of the event was fire safety, there were interactive areas set up to teach traffic safety, and home security techniques. There were games and activities for children and adults to learn about and practice safety techniques in a fun way. Attendees were also able to donate blood.
“Given the military footprint here at Fort Bragg and in Fayetteville, we’re accustomed to security and safety,” said Goodman. “This is another way to provide that security and safety.”
