Fire Leaves No Damage to the Cape Fear River Trail
The trail and park remains open, though it's still a bit hot for exercise.
The Cape Fear River trail remains open with no damage to the bridge or trails after a morning fire on Friday, according to Officer Robert Bundy, who maintains security at the Cape Fear River Trail in Fayetteville.
According to firefighters, initial reports were that a fire was burning in the woods near the trail portion where the covered bridge is located, past the 2.5-mile marker.
The rugged terrain deterred efforts to pinpoint and reach the location when firefighters responded to the fire at around 8:30 a.m., according to authorities.
