Fort Bragg Farewells XVIII Airborne Corps Chief of Staff on Monday

Monday morning the ceremony will be held at Main Post Flagpole.

At 10 a.m. Monday morning, Fort Bragg leaders, staff, peers and family will say goodbye and honor one of their top leaders, Brig. Gen. Michael X. Garrett.

Prior to his position at Fort Bragg, in Iraq he commanded the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) of the 25th Infantry Division (Light) from Fort Richardson, Alaska. Now he will hang his hat in Fort Richardson, Alaska as the commanding general of U.S. Army Alaska and deputy commander of U.S. Alaskan Command.

Garrett is known for being a soldier's soldier and has shown much care and concern for the paratroopers at Fort Bragg.

Last month when the Fort Bragg leadership gave the local media a tour of the new Warrior Transition Battalion complex, he candidly addressed recent issues about the unit.

“It’s not the fact that the Army’s not taking care of them. It’s the fact that something they love doing is being taken away from them,” Garrett said reflecting on the affected soldiers. “And our challenge is we want to do everything we can for them.”
