- KEY REQUIREMENTS
DUTIES:
Incumbent is responsible for identifying incomplete encounter information and communicating findings to providers to facilitate accurate workload credit and revenue collection. Informs veterans and their family members of the Veterans Administration mandate to collect insurance information. Incumbent collects, scans, and updates health insurance information. Contributes to the revenue collection process by identifying patients with third party insurance. Promotes veteran registration for and utilization of MyHealtheVet (MHV) online personal health record for veterans. Performs In-Person Authentication (IPA) for veterans requesting initial access to individually-identifiable health information with the MHV web based application. Ensures that all necessary health/administrative information is integrated into the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) through scanning hardware and VISTA Imaging software. Scans and indexes materials into CPRS, VISTA Imaging within established guidelines. Performs receptionist duties, customer service and other duties as assigned to ensure proper and timely treatment of patients. Maintains appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinics. Assists with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location, dates or shift patients to other healthcare providers when conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs. Responsible for processing first party requests for medical records and third party requests from non-VA providers. Enters Release of Information (ROI) requests into the DSS-ROI software package. Assists patients in completing authorization forms with an explanation of information being released. Screens/receives phone calls in a courteous and timely manner. Schedules appointments and utilizes the Electronic Waiting List. Utilizes VHA databases to extract, categorize and collate specific patient/provider metrics required to manage the chronic and preventive healthcare needs of the panel. Coordinates healthcare during the inpatient to outpatient discharge interface. Communicates with non-VA medical offices/facilities to coordinate care. Provides administrative support to physicians, physicians’ assistants, nurses, advanced registered nurse practitioners, dietitians, social workers and other professional staff. Responds to urgent or emergent written or faxed requests for medical information from hospitals and/or doctors. Incumbent is responsible for the development and management of a patient registry system which is utilized by team members to provide health care. Maintains specific reports to monitor and track health care delivery, quality improvement, cost and access.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 08:00AM - 4:30PM
Experience:
GS-5: Requires one (1) year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level
Education: 4 years above high school
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade is required that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
Specialized experience is defined as performing clerical, administrative, and technical support functions in an inpatient or outpatient treatment facility that provided a thorough knowledge of clinical procedures involving patient care that included duties such as scheduling appointments; maintaining charts, files, or medical records; utilizing a personal computer and a variety of office automation software programs; and obtaining information to determine eligibility for programs or services.
