Military were in the house - downtown at Huske Hardware House that is, for the final week of Huske Unplugged Singer-Songwriter Night of Season One. What a grand night it was for finals. The first place winner, Staff Sgt. Nathan Fair took home $2,000 in one sweep! Staff Sgt. Fair is assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, here at Fort Bragg.
On the last night, his final song won the hearts of all three judges. His song 'Fallen Soldier' was a tribute to one of his buddies who did not come back from Iraq.
The premise of the song is about the soldier's father meeting his son at the airport for the last time. The father was all alone with a tear in his eye. Staff Sgt. Fair sang of each one of the soldiers in his command going up to shake the father's hand, to say goodbye.
Owner and retired veteran Josh Collins said: "I'm amazed at the brilliance of some of the young talent here in Fayetteville and that was directly inspired by this competition! The Winning Songwriter Nathan Fairs's 'Fallen Soldier' is on par with 'Proud to be an American' or any other patriotic great!"
That song pushed Staff Sgt. Fair over the top with second place going to Mitch Clark, and third place went to former military member, Jeremy Strothers.The remaining three musicians made it a close call to the end. Local singer songwriter Chris Hurst plays at all the local hot spots alongside Matt Stowers and Rhone Avielle.
