School Eligible to Win $10,000 in Prize Money for Sustainable Project

Scotties, a leader in the tissue industry is pleased to announce the top 10 entries in their Trees Rock® video contest. Mrs. Grabill’s 3rd grade class from The Oakwood School in Greenville, NC is one of the finalists in the 3rd-5th section of this national video contest. The Grand Prize Winner in this division will receive $10,000 for the school to use towards a sustainable project, such as tree plantings, outdoor classrooms, playgrounds, athletic fields, gardens and greenhouses. All kids who entered the contest were required to create a video up to 3 minutes long on the importance of trees -- to themselves, their school, and their community.

The third graders created a video called “The Great Carbon Dioxide Eater” where they sung the importance of trees. “Roots filter water so it’s safe to drink, that way the water isn’t black like ink!” said the kids.

“My husband, a kindergarten teacher at our school, borrowed the school’s camera and filmed the children. They helped me choose the areas we wanted to film in.” said Grabill. “They came up with their own costumes at home with a little help from their parents.”
