How to Have Fun Shopping with Kids

As young parents would agree, shopping is less enjoyable and more stressful if you are taking your kids along. When shopping with kids, you will be keeping an eye on your kids more than on the shopping list you have in your hand. You will end up buying more of kids’ stuff than you ever intended to and less of the essentials for which you had set out shopping in the first place. Here are some simple but effective solutions that will make your shopping time more productive and your kids’ more enjoyable.

Keep your kids busy. Kids love to help. Make them feel you couldn’t do without them and that you badly need them to help you with your shopping. Then you will see how good, efficient and smart your otherwise restless children can be. You can delegate certain responsibilities to them like getting the trolley, picking up small things - stuff they can handle safely, etc. Let them choose things that are meant for them anyway whenever it’s harmless to let them do so. Thank them seriously and make them feel important. Don’t be surprised if you find yourselves depending on them more and more.

Keep toddlers interested. If your kid is a toddler riding on the trolley, chat with him or her continuously so that they don’t feel that your attention has shifted away from them. Point things out to him, as you walk past things, especially vegetables, fruits, etc. making your shopping a learning tour. Ask them to identify colors, etc. thus adding to their general awareness.

Make sure babies are not hungry, nor sleepy. Make sure your baby is not at all hungry during the whole of the shopping trip. Carry milk, juice and other stuff with you to keep your baby’s belly satiated. When their tummy is full, babies are usually happy unless they are sleepy. Schedule your shopping always in such a way that your baby has just woken up from a comfortable nap and is not likely to feel sleepy again soon.

Make your lists as short as you possibly can. Make several short shopping trips rather than one long trip. You should be out of the mall before they begin to get bored or irritated.

Shop online. When you are shopping for your kids’ stuff online, you can get them involved in the process. You can get them to select things for themselves and teach them how to choose a good product. Purchasing simple do-it-yourself stuff is also an excellent idea, as kids not only would be interested in selecting them but also in fixing them up once they are received. There are design-your-own T-shirts and other apparels that you can buy online. There are do-it-yourself improvement kits for the home as well as the garden. This not only saves time and makes shopping interesting, but also gives parents an opportunity to spend some quality time with their kids – quality time that is creative, interesting and fun.

Silly Shirt Shop, an online fun T-shop for parents and kids, has launched a delightful range of do-it-yourself character designs for customizing kids’ T-shirts.
