Kangaroo Express Sponsors Carolina Hurricanes’ Military Appreciation Game

Part of an ongoing effort to support members of the military and their families

Cary, N.C., March 10, 2014 – Kangaroo Express, the leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern United States, operated by The Pantry, Inc. (Nasdaq: PTRY), today announced it will sponsor the Carolina Hurricanes’ 11th annual military appreciation game on Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m. at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. The event is part of Kangaroo Express’ ongoing commitment to support members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.

The military appreciation game against the Edmonton Oilers will shine a spotlight of praise and gratitude on America’s servicemen and women with recognitions, games, giveaways and other family fun activities for all fans in attendance.  Military veterans, service members and their families will enjoy the game with complimentary tickets provided by Kangaroo Express and the Hurricanes.

“Our servicemen and women tirelessly make sacrifices to protect our freedoms,” said Gordon Schmidt, interim senior vice president of operations, Kangaroo Express. “Sponsoring the military appreciation night with the Hurricanes is another way for Kangaroo Express to say ‘thank you’ to our nation’s military families with a night of fun and entertainment while cheering the ‘Canes to victory.”   

The appreciation game will begin with a puck drop by Dale Beatty, National Guard veteran, Purple Heart recipient and co- founder of Purple Heart Homes, a non-profit organization that provides personalized housing solutions for veterans disabled in combat and their families that are substantial in function, design and quality. Beatty was named one of the top 10 CNN Heroes of 2013.

Additional military heroes will also be recognized throughout the game. Fans are invited to stop by the Kangaroo Express table in the concourse for giveaways and to learn more about Kangaroo Express’ commitment to supporting the military and their families through its hiring efforts, sponsorships, fundraisers, community involvement and more.
