Major Gen. Daniel Allyn Assumes Comand of XVIII Airborne Corps

Fort Bragg welcome back one of their own.

The XVIII Airborne Corps assembled on the Fort Bragg Main Post Parade Field Friday morning to welcome Major Gen. Daniel Allyn as he assumed command from Major Gen. Rodney Anderson, the Corps’ outgoing commanding general. General David M. Rodriguez, commander of the United States Army Forces Command, presided over the ceremony.

"It is so good to be home," said Allyn in his opening remarks.

Allyn, a native of Berwick, Maine, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1981. Prior to commanding 1st Cavalry Division, Allyn served as the Deputy commanding general of the XVIII Airborne Corps. He previously served as Chief of Staff, XVIII Airborne Corps, completing his tour as Chief of Staff, Multi-National Corps Iraq. He also served in joint assignments with the Joint IED Defeat Organization and the Joint Operations Directorate, J-3 of the Joint Staff.  Prior to his joint assignments, Allyn served as Commander, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) culminating with service during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Prior to serving in the Marne Division, Allyn served two tours of duty with the 82nd Airborne Division, two years with 2nd Infantry Division, and three tours of duty with the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Allyn's previous duties include command at the platoon through brigade level and staff assignments at the battalion through Joint Staff level.  He served an overseas assignment in Korea and operational deployments for Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, two peacekeeping deployments to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, Operation Just Cause in Panama, Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia, and Operation Desert Spring and Enduring Freedom in Kuwait, and two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
