Olympians Presented Olympic Flag at National Veterans Golden Age Games Opening Ceremony

Six U.S. Olympians presented the Olympic flag at the opening ceremony of the Nation’s largest all Veteran senior athletic competition, the 26^th National Veterans Golden Age Games, on May 30 at the America’s Center in St. Louis, Mo.

Olympians Lou Vitucci (1964 – Diving), John Carenza (1972 – Soccer), Jim “Soup” Campbell (1994 – Hockey), Stacey Smith, M.D. (1980 – Ice Dancing), Jim Chapin (1976, ’80, ’84 – Speed Skating), and Craig Virgin (1976, ’80, ’84 – Athletics) will join approximately 900 Veteran athletes age 55 and up as they kick off five days of intense athletic competition which take place June 1– 5.

Events at the Golden Age Games include cycling, swimming, air rifle, bowling, golf, dominoes, checkers, and shuffleboard. The Games, which are sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Canteen Service and Help Hospitalized Veterans are the premier senior adaptive rehabilitation program in the U.S. and the only national multi-event sports and recreational competition designed to improve the quality of life for all aging Veterans.
