PHOTOS: Linden Oaks Youth Skateboard on the Ramps and Rails

From Ollies to frontsides, kids of all ages showed up today in Linden Oaks to show off their skateboarding skills. 

Picerne Military Housing members along with Daville Skate Shop coordinated the event with the 16th MP BDE.

Since last summer, Picerne has been trying to get the youth engaged in the meetings within the community where they talk about concerns of the neighborhood and putting out general information. After finding out many of the youth were into skateboarding, the event evolved as part of the program where the youth have the opportunity to learn and exhibit leadership skills through helping set up and market these events.

"Being away from main post, we try to bring more to them", said Aledrea Bognar, Picerne Family Services Program Assistant. "It's great to see the support the youth offer one another in terms of support - some of the kids here don't even skate". 

Terry Grimble the owner of Fayetteville's Daville Skate Shop has grown up in the world of skateboarding and has constructed all the skateparks in Fayetteville. 

"We had two free skateparks in Fayetteville when I was growing up and the moment they closed down, boy the trouble we found ourselves in," said Grimble. "Once the law started arresting my friends I realized I needed to build a skatepark."

In 1993 Grimble built a skatepark at the Gilmore Youth Center that was around for five years. In 2007 he built the Double Decker at Blunt and Robeson streets, one of the world's largest indoor parks , The Mill skatepark at Manna Church, and also the park on Fort Bragg in the Biazza Ridge neighborhood.
