PHOTOS: Brig. Gen. Garrett Bids Fond Farewell to Fort Bragg

Hundreds gather to farewell the Garrett family.

Monday morning at Fort Bragg's Main Post Flagpole, Brig. Gen. Michael X. Garrett was honored as he prepares to leave his position as the 18th Airborne Corps chief of staff.

Garrett's remarks were both touching and humble as he addressed the crowd.

"This is yet another assignment where I feel I've taken more than I contributed," said Garrett. "I have learned so much from so many of you."

He reiterated that trust is the bedrock of our foundation. Trust between soldiers, trust between soldiers and their leaders, trust between soldiers, our families and our Army, and trust between our Army and the American people.

Garrett will become commanding general of U.S. Army Alaska and deputy commander of U.S. Alaskan Command at Fort Richardson.

Across the Army, he will become one of the 99 Major General's to be in a command level position according to Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick.
