“More than 5,100 families in North Carolina have inquired about bringing a Connections Academy virtual public school to the state in the past two years,” said Bryan Setser, Board Chair of North Carolina Connections Academy. “We invite these families and more throughout the state to attend a face-to-face information session to learn how this innovative public school-at-home may meet their needs.”
North Carolina Connections Academy’s charter application was submitted in December and if approved, the school will open in the 2015-2016 school year. The Academy will deliver a high-quality, highly accountable, tuition-free education. Students will learn from home under the instruction of North Carolina-certified teachers through online lessons and phone calls structured to fit a student’s individualized learning needs and schedule. A parent, or “Learning Coach,” also plays an integral role, serving to monitor academic progress in the home.
Learning outside of the traditional classroom can be a great fit for numerous types of students, including those who are significantly ahead or behind in the classroom, those who would benefit from individualized learning and those who require a flexible schedule. Homebound and previously home-schooled students can also thrive in Connections Academy’s program.
North Carolina Connections Academy will combine highly-qualified teachers, a standards-aligned curriculum and unique technology tools to help students succeed, while also encouraging social growth through numerous electives, clubs, field trips and community events. The school will be governed by a Board of Directors composed of North Carolina residents.
