Residents Create Cards for the Troops

Numerous businesses in Fayetteville reach out to the deployed soldiers in unique ways. employee Erica Sanders spearheaded a card-making event to send well wishes to the troops.

Taking a break from the heat, moms and kids piled into the A.C. Moore store's classroom to let their creative juices flow. 

"I love that these things are free and a break in the day," said military spouse Patty Ryan, who brought her two kids. 

The patriotic-themed cards were set out on craft tables with crayons to color and leave a message to encourage a soldier.

With email and Facebook, getting snail mail in the war zone seems like a dying trend. 

"It's nice to get something in the mail, especially from a random stranger," said Pfc. Daniel Webster, who happened to be getting face paint for Independence Day inside the store. 

Every Wednesday A.C. Moore holds a craft event of some sort for the community from 3 p.m to 5pm.
