Soldier and Police Identified in Middlecreek Neighborhood Shooting

USASOC soldier in critical, but stable condition.

The identity has been released of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command soldier that was shot in his driveway early Saturday morning.

Army Staff Sgt. Mark Lewis Salazar, 27,  was shot by Fayetteville police during an altercation outside his Middlecreek residence early Saturday morning.

Salazar remains in critical, but stable condition at on Sunday.

According to the release, Salazar was armed with a handgun when he was shot by police officers when they arrived in the area responding to a call about gunfire heard in the 6500 block of Pacific Ave. The police ordered the soldier to show his hands, then Salazar raised his weapon at the police officers.

His condition on Sunday afternoon was reported as critical but stable at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, said Sgt. Gary Womble.

The three officers in the confrontation were identified as James Tar, with 17 years of service, Michael Bohannon, with six years, and Chase Robinson, three years. All three officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay.

As of Sunday, no further details were released according to Womble.
