The Army Ground Forces Band’s History of Support Continues in Fayetteville

Military bands and patriotic tunes have been a long time tradition for Memorial Day.

Army Ground Forces Band will stay busy this Memorial Day Weekend performing at ceremonies and other venues in the Fort Bragg and Fayetteville communities to  pay tribute to servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

For over 160 years, the Army Ground Forces Band has served as the Musical Ambassador of the American Combat Soldier.  The Army Ground Forces Band's history includes service in the Civil War, the War with Spain, the Philippine Insurrection, and both World Wars. Today, the band serves as an outreach asset for the United States Army Forces Command, headquartered at Fort Bragg.

On Friday, the Four Star Brass Band, one of the nine subsets of the Army Ground Forces Band, initiated the Memorial Day concerts in a performance at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s ceremony.  Sgt. Curran J. Schenck, a bugler for the Army Ground Forces Band, played “Retreat” and “To the Colors” as a show of solidarity Friday evening to kick off May’s Fourth Friday in Downtown Fayetteville.  The Quintessential Winds, another subset of the Army Ground Forces Band, also performed for the Fayetteville and Fort Bragg communities for Fourth Friday at the Arts Council in Downtown Fayetteville Friday Evening.
