Cumberland County election results

Tuesday night at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux in Fayetteville, the crowds gathered to watch the live poll results come in.

After a much anticipated key election for North Carolina, the marriage amendment has prevailed by 61.05% of votes, 1,303,952 voters for the amendment.

Today North Carolina voters also selected their party nominees in races for governor, Congress, state legislature and local boards.

On hand to watch the votes come in was the State House Representative 45, GOP Primary, John Szoka, with 20 of 24 precincts in, he appears to have beaten out Diane Wheatley with 56.73% of the votes in thus far.

"I've had a lot of supporters behind me, and it's been a lot of hard work," said Szoka. "I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

Fayetteville's own, Eric Mansfield, was on the ballot for the state's Lieutenant Governor and came in just under 12% against his opponent, Linda Coleman.

Early in the evening, Pat McCrory was declared the winner of the gubernatorial primary.
