Black history month, Battle of the Books, and Parent's Day

17th Annual Elementary Battle of the Books Competition
CCS’ Elementary Battle of the Books cluster face-offs take place from February 22 – 28. The final two teams standing will ‘go head to head’ in the quiz bowl-type tournament to be awarded the county title on Tuesday, March 6 at 8:30 a.m. This year’s competitions will take place in the Shaw Auditorium on the campus of Fayetteville State University.

Elementary Battle of the Books was established to help elementary school students develop a lifelong love of reading.

Parent & Community Day: “Partnering for Success”
CCS’ Student Support Services Department is sponsoring the Positive Behavior
Intervention Support (PBIS) Parent and Community Day on Thursday, February 23 from 1:00 – 5:30 p.m. at ERC (Educational Resource Center), located at 396 Elementary Drive. There will be informative sessions on bullying prevention, character education, and positive behavior intervention. Booths will be set up that highlight the school system’s state-recognized PBIS schools as well as other system-wide initiatives. History ‘Comes to Life’
In observance of Black History Month, students at Lucile Souders Elementary School will bring the history and culture of the era surrounding the Negro Baseball League to life. The program takes place on Thursday, February 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the elementary school. The Negro Baseball League was made up of United States professional baseball leagues that showcased the talents of African American players.
