Two Fort Bragg Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

Two First Brigade paratroopers assigned to Fort Bragg were killed Sunday in Ghazni Afghanistan. Both servicemembers were killed in a blast from an improvised explosive device, said a Fort Bragg spokeswoman on Tuesday.

First Lt. Jonathan Walsh, 28, was killed when the explosive hit his vehicle in southern Ghazni province. Pfc. Michael Metcalf, 22, who was wounded in that blast, died a short time later.

Walsh, an infantry platoon leader with 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, is survived by his wife and son, Debbra and Austin Walsh, of Raeford, and his parents, Paul and Carolyn Walsh of Kennesaw, Ga. He joined the Army in March 2010 and was assigned to Fort Bragg in August. Walsh was a graduate of .

Metcalf, an infantryman serving in Walsh's platoon, was also assigned to Fort Bragg in August after enlisting in March. He is survived by his parents, Ceejay and Kim Metcalf, of Boynton Beach, Fla.
