USASOC Soldier Involved in Shootout with Police Died Saturday
Mark Salazar had remained in critical condition since the incident on May 5.

Army Staff Sgt. Mark Lewis Salazar, 27, shot by Fayetteville police during an altercation outside his Middlecreek residence died on Saturday.
Salazar was a graphic illustrator for the Army Special Operations Command's 4th Military Information Support Group.
Last Saturday Salazar was alledgedly armed with a handgun when he was shot by police officers when they arrived in the area responding to a call about gunfire heard in the 6500 block of Pacific Ave. The police ordered the soldier to show his hands, then Salazar raised his weapon at the police officers.

The three police involved are on leave with pay, while the incident is under investigation.
