Weekend Happenings in Cumberland County

Its the last weekend to see the 1897 Poe House decorated for Christmas. More info and a full weekend calendar are provided below.

One of #Fayetteville’s gems is the 1897 EA Poe House. A tour of the house interprets life for the upper middle class at the turn of the 20th century. The house was built in Haymount on the cusp of many changes. No where is this more evident than the fixtures. Each lighting fixture offered an option for gas and electrical lighting. This is because when the house was built, electricity wasn’t commonly available but Mr. Poe knew it soon would be.

This weekend is the last chance to see the Poe House decorated for a Victorian-era Christmas. During guided tours, docents provide fascinating information on how the Poe family lived, and the Christmas traditions they held. Hours are 10 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday and 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday.

The Poe House is one of the three facilities that are part of the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex, a branch of the NC Museum of history.
