• Surveillance video captures police shooting man at Gastonia convenience store (wbtv.com) — Gastonia residents can now see surveillance video of a January police shooting at Jakob’s Food Mart, after investigators decided two officers will not face criminal charges. The footage and police account detail what led up to the deadly encounter, including an apparent gun later found to be fake, and note that an internal review by Gastonia police is still underway.

Stuart Cramer boys golf claims second straight NCHSAA title (gastongazette.com) — Stuart Cramer High’s boys golf team, based in Gaston County, has captured its second straight NCHSAA state championship, this time in the 4A division at Southern Pines. Led by junior Lane Crotts’ individual state title, the Storm’s dominant performance continues a strong run for local programs that recently saw several Gastonia wrestlers win state gold as well.
   

• North Carolina Lawmakers Consider Bill to Raise Tobacco Purchase Age to 21 (1077thebounce.com) — A Gastonia lawmaker is helping lead a push to raise North Carolina’s minimum age for buying tobacco and vaping products to 21, along with creating a permit system for retailers. The bill has stalled in committee, even as youth vaping rates remain high and student groups press legislators in Raleigh to act.
