• Scholarship for RichmondCC's 911 program honors French (robesonian.com) — Hamlet-area students interested in 911 communications now have a new Richmond Community College scholarship honoring longtime emergency communications leader Bill Foster French. Funded by North Carolina NENA, the endowed award supports students in RichmondCC’s pioneering 911 Communications & Operations degree, helping train future telecommunicators and leaders who will serve communities across North Carolina. Applications are available through RichmondCC’s online scholarship form.
   

• Woman accused of stealing carpet in Cordova, $2,700 in merch from Moore County retailer (richmondobserver.com) — A woman from East Rockingham faces new felony charges after an alleged break-in in Cordova and a separate case involving more than $2,700 in merchandise reportedly stolen from a Moore County retailer with a suspect from the Hamlet area. She and her co-defendant have upcoming court dates in June, and authorities note that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
   

• PHOTOS: Junior 49ers vs. Liberty Post 81 (richmondobserver.com) — Hamlet’s American Legion Post 49 junior baseball team opened its season with a strong 8-2 home win, powered by a big third inning and solid pitching from Noah and Colton Trexler. Local fans can next see the Junior 49ers in action Friday when they travel to North Moore High School to face Moore County Post 12 at 7 p.m.
