Campaign Underway To Help Family After Christmas Day Fire

A Huntersville family lost their home of almost 30 years in a Christmas Day fire. A GoFundMe campaign is underway to help them.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Christmas Day took a tragic turn for a Huntersville family Tuesday, when their home was destroyed by a fire that also claimed the life of the family’s dog. The community is now rallying with a GoFundMe campaign to help the family.

Huntersville firefighters from three area fire stations responded to the blaze at the home in the 11000 block of Everett Keith Road Dec. 25, and found a heavy fire underway. No residents of the home were reported injured, however one firefighter injured their leg in the fire, and one dog died, according to Huntersville Fire. "Home is a total loss," Huntersville Fire said. "Unfortunate on this Christmas Day. Thankful to all volunteers who responded."

The family lost nearly everything in the home they had lived in for nearly 30 years, according to Spectrum News. Sifting through the debris, they were able to find and salvage some family photos, a keepsake blanket, baseball bats and a family bible that was found in near perfect condition due to a cover.

“On Christmas Day, they received a heartbreaking phone call that their house was on fire,” the GoFundMe campaign said. “The house and everything inside is unsalvageable. The family dog also perished. Please help them rebuild and give them back some Christmas hope.”

Within the first day, the campaign had raised more than $1,000 towards the $5,000 goal.
