Duke Energy Plans Nuclear Siren Test: What You Need To Know

If you hear a siren today in the Lake Norman area, don't freak out. It's just a test.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC -- Duke Energy is conducting a quarterly test of McGuire Nuclear sirens midday Tuesday to make sure they're operating properly.

The April 10 test will begin at 11:50 a.m. and will last about 10 minutes, according to Huntersville Fire.

Pole-mounted sirens are located throughout a 10-mile radius of McGuire Nuclear Station, according to Duke Energy. They tested every quarter to ensure they are working correctly as part of normal maintenance. No public action is necessary, officials say.
