HUNTERSVILLE, NC — The annual seven-acre corn maze at Historic Rural Hill has hit a dead end for the 2019 season, according to event organizers, who called the decision to not open the beloved Lake Norman attraction “unfortunate, but necessary.”

“Despite our best efforts, our corn field has experienced multiple difficulties, including a first attempt at a crop that did not emerge, and then extremely dry conditions over the last few weeks after replanting the field,” said a statement from Historic Rural Hill.

“We look forward to the Amazing Maize Maze every year not only as a fun family friendly farm event, but as a major source of funding for our cultural and education programs as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization,” it said.

Still ahead for the 2019 season on the working farm, however, is the 25th Annual Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival on November 9-10. In the spring, the 2020 Loch Norman Highland Games will take place on the farm April 18-19, 2020.
