Huntersville Bridge To Be Removed Next Week As Part of I-77 Construction
Hambright Road bridge will soon close for 18 months while a new bridge is built for the I-77 toll lane project. Here's detour information.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC -- Hambright Road bridge will shut down July 16 and will remain closed for 18 months while the current bridge is demolished and a new one built in its place as part of the Interstate 77 toll lane construction project.
The closure will not cause an I-77 detour but will cause periodic lane closures and traffic shifts during that time, project manager I-77 Mobility Partners said in a statement July 6. Local traffic, however, will need to use a permanent detour during the 18-month long project:

- Local traffic travelling from west of I-77 will take Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road or Alexanderana Road to Statesville Road to access Hambright Road on the east side of I-77.
- Local traffic travelling from east of I-77 will take Statesville Road to either Mt. Holly Huntersville Road or Alexanderana Road to access Hambright Road on the west side of I-77.
The new bridge will directly connect with the new toll lanes, have sidewalks and bike lanes and will increase traffic capacity with two travel lanes running in each direction, I-77 Mobility partners said.
