Huntersville Police Department'sCitizens Police Academy course is accepting applications. Here's how to apply.
HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Residents of Huntersville who want to learn more about the police department will soon have an opportunity to do just that. The five-week Huntersville Citizens Police Academy course is set to begin Feb. 25, and applications are now being accepted, the Huntersville Police Department said Wednesday.
Residents must be 18 years old or older, must not have been convicted of or pending charges for either a felony offense or a misdemeanor offense within the last two years.
Here's what the Huntersville Police Department says about the course:
“The Huntersville Police Department's Citizen Police Academy is a 5-week program held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Huntersville Police Department located at 9630 Julian Clark Avenue, Huntersville, NC. In keeping with our organizational values “Honor, Professionalism and Dedication to Duty,” the Huntersville Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy is designed to nurture public trust through informing our citizens of the crucial role the police department serves in the community. The Academy is a community relations program and is not designed to train citizens to be police officers or to be our representatives; rather it gives the citizens a basic but realistic view of what the police really do. The Citizen Police Academy is intended to be an interactive program involving open discussion and some “hands on” activities. The CPA is free for all participants. "
