Huntersville Doctor Pleads Guilty In Child-Porn Case

Former Huntersville oncologist Dr. David Shope pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to sharing child pornography.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC -- A former Huntersville hematologist-oncologist Dr. David Shope pleaded guilty to the charge of sharing explicit child pornography in to a report.

Shope, 43, who was arrested in 2015 during an undercover sting when he distributed explicit videos and photographs of children under the age of 12 to authorities, made his plea during an appearance in federal court July 13.

Court documents show he shared videos with an undercover Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives of children as young as 3-years-old engaged in sexual activity with other children and adults, The Charlotte Observer reported.

At the time of his arrest, Shope was a staff member of Southern Oncology Specialists, the newspaper said.
