Huntersville Police Charge Woman In Fentanyl Overdose Death

A Huntersville woman has been charged with murder following the May death of a man who overdosed on Fentanyl, HPD said Thursday.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC -- A woman has been charged with murder following the May death of a Huntersville man who overdosed on Fentanyl, a drug 100 times more potent than morphine, Huntersville Police said.

On May 29, Billy Ray Bullabough was taken from a residence on Dallas Street in Huntersville to an area hospital, where he died later that same day. After an investigation, HPD determined Bullabough bought illegal drugs from Amanda Leigh Allen, 39, who was arrested for unrelated drug charges June 8.

Additional charges stemming from Bullabough’s overdose, however, were brought more recently after a three-month investigation and following an Aug. 24 autopsy report that stated his cause of death was “Fentanyl toxicity,” HPD said Sept. 7.

Allen has now been charged with second degree murder as well as other related drug offenses.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is prescribed as an aalgesic and anesthetic, and it is 50 times more potent than heroin as an analgesic, HPD said.
