Huntersville’s Decked Out ‘Cone Weed’ Now Has Its Own T-Shirt

A weed growing through a traffic cone on Beatties Ford Road now has holiday decorations, as well as its own T-shirt design.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC -- Christmas has come early on the side of the road in Huntersville, but if you blink you just might miss it. In perhaps what could go down as the smallest -- and oddest -- community holiday tree in Huntersville history, a weed growing through an orange traffic cone is steadily gaining local fans.

And, it turns out, people in Huntersville really like their weed.

The wacky weed sits across the road from the Huntersville Fire Station on Beatties Ford Road. “The ‘Cone Weed’ which has been growing all year (located across BFR from Station 2) has been decorated for the season!” Huntersville Fire Department tweeted recently. “We may or may not know who did this...it’s not on our property - so we’re not talking, but it’s AMAZING!”

By the weekend, Cone Weed attracted tinsel, lights, wrapped presents and even a festive holiday yard sign. Perhaps with momentum like that, it seems only natural that by Tuesday morning it would have its own T-shirt design and social media hashtag campaign.

“A local graphic designer created a shirt for sale,” Huntersville Fire tweeted Nov. 14. “We reached out to them this morning & discussed it. HFD is big on serving our community & they agree; donating 100% of ALL proceeds to HopeMatch.org

The donations will be be matched up to $10,000 and will help local families in need, according to the fire department.

If you want your own piece of Huntersville holiday swag, you’ll need to act fast. The T-shirts, longsleeve shirts and hoodies will only be on sale for one week. By Tuesday afternoon, 58 had already been sold.

You can buy your own Cone Weed shirt here.
