ICYMI: Here Are The Chances For A White Christmas In Huntersville

Forecasters have predicted how likely your dreams are to come true.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC – Did the snow last weekend have you dreaming of a white Christmas? Forecasters say the winter fantasy might just come true – though the chances aren't in your favor.

In the Charlotte-metro area, the chance of waking up to a Christmas card winter wonderland scene on Dec. 25 is about 2 percent, according to an interactive map from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association that shows the historical probability for a snow depth of at least one inch of snow.

For a slightly better chance of a white Christmas, head to the North Carolina mountains. In Boone, there’s a 19 percent chance of snow, and in Grandfather Mountain, there’s a 24 percent chance.

NOAA's map is based on the average temperatures of the past three-decades, precipitation and other climate variables. On the map below, the darkest gray areas show the lowest probability for a white Christmas and the white areas show where the chances are the greatest.

Accuweather.com's long-range forecast for Charlotte doesn't look good for a white Christmas, either. According to the forecast, the high will reach 50 degrees with rain or drizzle possible.
