Mecklenburg County GIS Changing Addresses Along S Old Statesville Rd Around Downtown
Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte have recently implemented a computer-enhanced 911 Emergency System. This System relies on the use of street addresses to dispatch emergency vehicles such as police, fire, ambulance, etc.
As part of this effort, Mecklenburg County GIS is recommending address changes to reflect correct street addresses in the system. Last summer, property owners along a portion of North Old Statesville Road near the downtown area were notified that their addresses will be changing. Recently, residents and businesses along South Old Statesville Road have been notified that their three digit addresses will be changing to five-digit numbers. Mecklenburg County GIS has provided a map to the Town with the new addresses for reference.

This new system makes it imperative that properties show the correct street addresses. Mecklenburg County GIS is responsible for administering the Street Address Ordinance and it requires property owners to display the correct address within 30 days of receipt of the notice. The USPS and public safety agencies have been notified of the address change but property owners are responsible for notifying utilities.
