Suspect Arrested On Fugitive Warrant ‘Violently’ Damages Cop Car

Jermont Wilcher attempted to elude Huntersville officers before he was taken into custody Tuesday, according to police.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A suspect wanted on an out-of-state felony fugitive warrant who had attempted to elude Huntersville Police was taken into custody Tuesday and “violently” damaged the interior of a cop car, according to the police department.

Jermont Wilcher, 30, was taken arrested June 19 after Huntersville police officers saw him on the front porch of a home located in the 18000 block of Streamline Court, where they attempted to serve him with the outstanding felony warrant. After officers announced their presence, Wilcher ran into the home “to avoid arrest,” HPD said. “Officers pursued Wilcher and he was taken into custody without further incident.”

HPD had attempted to serve the warrant on an earlier date, but he fled in a vehicle.

As Wilcher was being transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail Tuesday, he became aggressive in the back of the police car, according to police, who said “he damaged the interior of a patrol vehicle after continuously, and violently, banging the plastic partition, causing it to crack.”

Wilcher has been charged with being a fugitive of another state, resisting a public officer, injury to personal property and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
