Week Ahead Weather: Rain Ahead, Then Sun for Huntersville

The Lake Norman region will see rain early this week before skies clear up.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC -- Lake Norman will see thunderstorms then clearing skies this week as the southeast continues to wait for signs of what Hurricane Irma could bring to the Carolinas.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Mecklenburg County Sept. 5, predicting isolated thunderstorms in the Charlotte-metro region Tuesday afternoon and evening as a cold front moved through the area. Severe storms are also possible Wednesday, with some possibly producing damaging wind gusts, NWS said.

Weather forecasters also continue to monitor how Hurricane Irma, which reached category-5 strength Tuesday morning with wind speeds of 175 miles per hour, could potentially impact the Carolinas later in the week.
