• Romanian brothers plead guilty to SNAP fraud scheme (spectrumlocalnews.com) — A major federal SNAP fraud case has direct ties to Matthews, where two Romanian brothers bought $15,000 in food at the local Sam’s Club as part of a multi-state scheme. Authorities say the ring used cloned benefits cards to make large warehouse-club purchases across North Carolina and beyond, reselling the goods for profit. The brothers have pleaded guilty and face up to 20 years in prison.
