• Monroe nonprofits face budget shortfall due to issue with city money (wsoctv.com) — Monroe nonprofits are suddenly facing major budget gaps after the city placed nearly $309,000 in planned outside-agency funding into a holding account because it exceeded a council cap. Local groups like Crisis Assistance Ministry, Turning Point, Community Shelter, and Common Heart say the delay could mean evictions, reduced services, and tough cuts while city leaders sort out policy questions and a potential conflict-of-interest issue.

• Sergeant's hunch about BMW leads to duo suspected in 100 burglaries, NC police say (charlotteobserver.com) — Monroe police say a sergeant’s early-morning hunch about a black BMW on Concord Highway led to a chase, tire deflation, and the arrest of two South Carolina men. Investigators believe the pair may be tied to more than 100 pharmacy burglaries across multiple states, with Monroe officers now coordinating with other agencies as the case continues.
