Burlington Man Charged With Sexual Assault Of 7 Year-Old: Sheriff

MOORESVILLE, NC — A Burlington man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old victim while visiting relatives in Mooresville this summer, the sheriff’s office said Friday.

According to Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, a report was filed Oct. 4 in their office about the assault that allegedly occurred between July 31 and Aug. 3. The victim named Joseph Michael Johnson, 26, as the suspect.

During the course of the investigation, an Iredell County detective contacted the Burlington Police Department, who assisted by locating Johnson.

Johnson was located Oct. 6 by BPD and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center, where he was charged with a felony warrant for indecent liberties with a minor. His secured bond was set at $30,000.

The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be brought, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said.
