9th Annual Iredell Walk for Recovery to celebrate National Recovery Month

(IREDELL COUNTY) The 9th Annual Iredell County Walk for Recovery will be on Saturday, September 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at South Iredell High School Gym (299 Old Mountain Road).

This FREE, family-friendly event will celebrate the hope and healing that comes with recovery from substance use and mental illness with words from three inspiring speakers and several community leaders.

Family activities, including music, touch-a-truck educational area, wellness/fitness mini-classes, health checks from Iredell County Health Department, balloon artists, face painting, performances, photo booth, art exhibit, games, and crafts, and a recovery walk complete with hot air balloons, will also add to the fun.

A free catered dinner of hotdogs, water, and side items will also be served. Popcorn, snow cones, and other treats will be distributed by community organizations. Water will be provided courtesy of Niagara Water.

The National Recovery Month event spreads the word about treatment and recovery as well as provides education to parents, youth, and community members related to substance use prevention and mental health.

Many community organizations and agencies will share information, and adults can take a "walk" around the vendor area with their stamp card to eligible for prize drawings! (Must be present to win!)

ABOUT NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH

Each September, SAMHSA sponsors National Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental health, trauma, and substance use disorders and celebrate the individuals living in recovery.

Now in its 38th year, Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, just as we celebrate improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.

Each September, Recovery Month works to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the emergence of a strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery in all its forms possible.

The observance will highlight inspiring stories that will help thousands of people from all walks of life find the path to hope, health, and wellness.
