Cigarette Blamed In Fire At Mooresville Manor: Fire Official

A small fire at Mooresville Manor senior apartments was accidental and blamed on an improperly discarded cigarette, fire officials said.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A small fire at Mooresville Manor senior apartments over the weekend was accidental and blamed on an improperly discarded cigarette, according to fire officials.

Residents of the apartment complex, located at 323 E. Statesville Avenue, were evacuated around 1:30 a.m. Oct. 26 after the small fire was reported in one of the units. No injuries were reported.

“Although the occupant had successfully extinguished the fire inside an apartment, the common hallway outside the apartment had a considerable amount of light, hazy smoke,” Mooresville Fire & Rescue said in a statement. “After fire personnel confirmed the fire had not spread beyond the single apartment and monitored the air for safety, residents were allowed to return to their apartments approximately one hour later.”
