Dozens Of New COVID-19 Confirmations In Iredell Over The Weekend
More than 60 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Iredell County over the weekend, according to state public health data.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Iredell County confirmed at least 748 cases of novel coronavirus Monday, 61 more than reported Friday afternoon, according to public health data.
Iredell's increased case count comes as community spread of the virus continues around the state. North Carolina's case count rose by 1,342 Monday, increasing the total number of confirmed cases to more than 63,000.
The numbers of actual cases of COVID-19 are likely much higher, according to one federal public health official. Actual COVID-19 rates are likely 10 times higher than the number of confirmed cases, Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.

As of Monday, at least 1,325 state residents have lost their lives to COVID-19, including three new deaths reported since Sunday. At least 843 people remain hospitalized in North Carolina facilities.
In Iredell County, nine residents have died from coronavirus-related illness, and 20 residents remained hospitalized as of Monday afternoon, according to the Iredell County Health Department. At least 337 residents who had tested positive were isolating in their homes, health officials said.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. Monday, June 29:
North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)
- 197 cases (up from 124 cases reported June 19)
Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)
- 304 cases (up from 213 cases reported June 19)
South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)
- 245 cases (up from 175 cases reported June 19)
Most of the cases — about 38 percent — were of residents who were 25 to 49 years old. About 8 percent of the county's confirmed cases were children under 17 years of age, ICHD data said Monday.
The county's COVID-19 case tally as of June 29, included an estimated 380 cases that were assumed recovered.
As of Monday, nine percent of all tests in North Carolina were positive. The World Health Organization recommends that governments have a percent positive rate of 5 percent or lower for at least 14 days before reopening.
