  3. Good news for Iredell County — $67,173 in supplemental emergency food and shelter funds have been awarded to the county. Reportedly, the money is from a grant from the federal government through the Department of Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. How the funds will be distributed to local service agencies will be determined by a board made up of local residents from various government agencies, nonprofits and the faith communities. If your agency would like to apply for funds contact Liz Burns, United Way of Iredell County, 704-872-3000 or lburns@uwiredell.org. The deadline to apply is February 27. (Mooresville Tribune)

From my notebook:

  • Mooresville Police Department: "It's Traffic Tip Tuesday! Frustrated by drivers who wait until a lane ends to merge? Did you know they are following the zipper merge? The zipper merge helps maximize road space and reduces congestion. Drivers should use both lanes until the merge point, then alternate like a zipper into the open lane. Keep traffic moving more efficiently by not merging early!" (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
  • Mooresville Police Department: "It's time for another episode of Heroes at Lake Norman Humane - LKNH! This month, our MPD heroes were joined by a health hero, Town of Mooresville NC's very own employee wellness Nurse Amy Brant! Amy loved snuggling with sweet Siberian Husky mix Luna (F)! Speckles (M) the guinea pig also brought lots of smiles.
Officer Mercado made a new friend with Brody (M) the Rottweiler mix. Blake (F) with her beautiful black coat only paused for a moment before moving on to explore (and to hang out with Officer Oldham)." (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
  • Mooresville Parks & Recreation: "Youth Baseball signups today! Please click the link below to register your child. For questions please call 704-799-4230 https://secure.rec1.com/NC/mooresville-recreation-parks-department/catalog." (Mooresville Parks & Recreation via Facebook)
