I-77 Traffic Stop Nets Major Drug Bust In Iredell County

The smell of marijuana wafting out of the car prompted a search, which led to the discovery of oxycodone, methamphetamine and cash.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A driver from Virginia stopped in Iredell County for a traffic violation recently ended up in handcuffs after a deputy smelled marijuana wafting out of the car. A search of the vehicle turned up Oxycodone and methamphetamine, as well as a large sum of cash, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy made the traffic stop along Interstate 77 on Oct. 23, when they pulled over a Chevrolet car traveling southbound near mile marker 59. After the smell emanating from the vehicle prompted a probable cause search, deputies discovered nearly 24 grams of Oxycodone pills packaged for sale, a bag of methamphetamine, digital scales and other materials used in packaging narcotics for sale, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies also found more than $20,000 in cash in a backpack.

Bryan Richard Mack, 29 of Roanoke, Virginia, was arrested and charged with felony trafficking by possession of Oxycodone, felony trafficking by transport of oxycodone and felony possession of methamphetamine. His secured bond was set at $500,000.
