Budd Keeps Congress Seat, Defeats Manning: 2018 Election Results
Republican Ted Budd kept his seat in U.S. Congress, defeating challenger Kathy Manning. Here are other Iredell election results.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Republican Ted Budd has been re-elected, keeping his seat for North Carolina’s 13th congressional district in one of the tightest races of the evening in the Tar Heel State. By 11 p.m., Budd outpaced Democratic challenger Kathy Manning by more than 18,000 votes and was declared winner by the Associated Press.
The win came hours after another Republican in the region retained his U.S. House seat. Shortly after 8 p.m., Republican Patrick McHenry was declared the winner in his re-election bid for the U.S. House representing North Carolina's 10th congressional district, according to the AP.
In Iredell County, a ballot question seeking to raise local county sales tax was roundly defeated. (See major results from Iredell races in the chart below).

On a national level, Democrats needed to flip 23 Republican-held seats on election night in order to take control of the U.S. House, and two of the most competitive races were in North Carolina, according to the New York Times.
One of those seats was in North Carolina’s 13th district. Rep. Ted Budd, a freshman in Congress, was targeted by Democrats and faced stiff opposition from Democrat Kathy Manning, an attorney from Greensboro.
