Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Monday, February 1, 2021, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to Felony Identity Theft. The victim advised multiple credit cards and utility services had been opened using their name, and using their personal identifying information. Detective C. Scannella with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Economics Crime Unit was assigned to investigate the report. 

After meeting with, and interviewing the victim, Detective Scannella located several witnesses, and served multiple search warrants in this investigation. The evidence gathered verified Michael Chad Ward, as the suspect responsible for establishing all of the accounts.

Detective Scannella was able to apply for, and receive Twelve Counts of Felony Identity Theft against Ward. Michael Chad Ward was arrested on Saturday, July 31, 2021 by deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad. Ward was then transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was served with the warrants, and Magistrate M. Nethken issued a 10,000.00 dollar secured bond.

Criminal history: Seven Counts of Felony Breaking or Entering of a Motor Vehicle, Five Counts of Felony Breaking or Entering, Misdemeanor Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Fourteen Counts of Felony Breaking or Entering of a Boat, Felony Larceny, Felony Financial Card Fraud, DWI Level 5, Failure to Heed or Lights and Siren, Misdemeanor Larceny, Misdemeanor Resist a Public Officer, Felony Exploitation of a Disabled or Elderly Person, Two Counts of Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Goods.
