Iredell County Woman Wins $1M In ‘Casino Cash’ Lottery Game
Christy Steele of Statesville won $1 million with a scratch-off lottery game. Here's what she says she's going to do with the money.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — An Iredell County woman says she’s still reeling from her recent lottery win, which she says she will use to pay for her daughter’s college education. Christy Steele of Statesville won $1 million last week by playing the $25,000.000 Casino Cash” scratch-off lottery game, North Carolina Education Lottery officials said.
“I’m still processing it, I can’t believe it,” Steele in a statement. “Last year, I was bummed because I got a speeding ticket the week before my birthday. This year I got a winning ticket!”
Steele purchased the $10 lottery ticket at Barker’s Log Cabin Grocery in Harmony. The $1 million will was the first prize of its size for the game.

“I was just feeling lucky that day for some reason,” Steele said . “I figured I’d give it a try.”
Steele opted to receive a lump sum payout when she claimed her prize June 21 at lottery headquarters in Raleigh taking home $424,503 after taxes. She told lottery officials she intended to invest the money, as well as pay for college tuition for her daughter.
“We helped our son graduate college debt-free,” Steele said. “I plan to do the same for our daughter.”
